In February 2009, I decided to record my first CD as a leader. The idea was to document the music I was writing during the time I was living in New York. The title, Away and Back is representative of that move from California to New York, and eventually back to California.
About half of the CD is just trio with two of my favorite musicians in the world: Edward Simon on piano and Fender Rhodes and Marcus Gilmore on drums. The other half features Kyle Wilson on tenor saxophone, and Vanessa Robaire (formerly Vanessa Dunlop) on vocals.
